Near Ready It has been a long chilly spring and finally all the woodwork has been refinished as it was very weathered from the previous owner. Railings, galley hatchway, rudder and window frames have been finished. Next is the galley itself as it is filled with intrigue hardwood. Each piece will need to be removed and refinished as well. I was appalled at the price of some of the cleaning supplies for scrubbing down the deck. A little research and some elbow grease and that old magical cleaner vinegar and water. Once scrubbed and rinsed off the pebbled deck shone a gleaming white. Nothing like Grandmothers old recipe for cleaning, the best part no chemicals. The final touch will be the new name I have given her... "Aurora Mist." depicting the Northern Lights which will be the last thing I do before she sets sails again. Next Stop Is a peaceful lake, a place where a man can get lost being carried by the wind with little or no care in the world. One can never tell when there may be a Lake Trout who will decide your offering is worthy of taking. Should they not decide to bite that is ok as well. The quest for a new quite cove to anchor up for the night and have a well earned supper is one of the best rewards. Of course it will entail some late evening fishing, all the while listening to the call of the loon and the waterfowl. Then a restful sleep being gently rocked with the waves. It is indeed a hard life, I have 5 days to enjoy the lake and leave late Friday afternoon to let the weekend warriors enjoy what I have had. Back to Life Then it is back to a weekend of yard work and getting all the chores completed that I have neglected all week. Once done if time and weather permits it is time to load up the galley and get ready for another adventure. Retirement is great and I have to tell you I am loving it.
