Welcome I have been thinking a great deal this past while about keeping an active mind. Trying new things and yes even resurrecting the old. I have a dear friend who is slipping into that solitude state as dementia slowly robs him of the life he once knew. It is so sad watching the steady decline, my heart goes out to him and his dear wife as they venture into this uncharted territory. Gather around and lets see where these two fingers take us today... the Fireside is open so grab a cup, a blankie and settle in for a little while. Summer Past If you are anything like me summer means colour, fresh air and simply enjoying all we have at hand. Just a few hundred feet down the walk you can step into the waters of the Bow River where there is an ample fishery for several species of fish. The Bow River is ranked as being the fourth best river in the world for its diverse community of fish. For the past few years there have been more and more people dumping their little "Little Herbie" the goldfish into the river so he can live on. Herbie plays no role in this river but that show Free Willy is being played out in our pristine fishery. This past summer a 5 pound goldfish was caught by a fly fisherman. Yes exciting and all of that but the downside is the habitant of trout is being threatened as the goldfish or carp are eating all the natural plant life and cover. This means the spawning grounds are being threatened as trout lay eggs in both plant life and on rocky bottoms. Along comes Herbie and he can devastate an entire spawn. Alberta Fish and Wildlife has given specific instructions to all anglers. "If you catch any form of Goldfish you are to kill it and remove the carcass from any and all waterways. Research has shown they are very prolific breeders, they can lay thousands of eggs several times a year if the conditions are favourable. If Herbie by chance happens to be female well you get the picture. Angel is Fussy As you can see Angel has decided there must be better food than the old dry stuff. I think she is speaking in her attempts to shed some light on her preferred diet. Some friends recently had to put their dog down, Angel acquired a few new toys and yes some food. She has all but turned her nose at it as well. Such will make a great donation to the local animal rescue efforts. Daily Reminder Each day no matter the start or the finish I am reminded of just how small we are in the bigger picture of things. Each day we need to look at what we have done to make the world a better place. Could I help more to change a life? Is there someone I could have taken the time to listen more closely, maybe making a difference in their day. I was in the city the other day and hardly anyone talks to each other. Everyone is caught up in playing with their devices. Looking around I cannot help but think of the need, the pain and suffering they may have gone through. We all have a story and we can all share it, you just never can tell maybe there is a connection. It is very possible that same person may want to share a little of what they are facing. Lets all try and take that opportunity no matter how busy you are to stop and speak with people you meet. Christmas is especially hard on people due to loss or stressing out what that perfect gift would be for another. We are all spending far to much money and forgetting the real reason we have Christmas. A Few Paintings Painting Pour Thought I would share a few paintings of the past week or so. Having a great time learning what reacts and responds to different paint mixtures, consistencies and products to create the small cells or circles you may see. I have all but taken over the kitchen table for the past while, good thing it is a big table...lol. A very Blessed and Merry Christmas Just in case I miss you over the Christmas Season I would like to personally wish you the best and may your New Year bring you to that place of perfect peace... Thanks for following along... As always hugs are attached... © Rolly A. Chabot
