Caught in The Flood... © Rolly A. Chabot

Welcome

As you visit you will find we have more fresh snow that arrived overnight. Again waking to a heavy fog and heavy frost making windshields on vehicles freeze solid. Enter the trusty snow scraper and brush which I had hoped I could hide in my truck again for another season. Nothing quite like winter here in Canada. A common saying is if you do not like the weather well wait 5 minutes and see what you think.

Find a comfortable chair and make yourself at home. Hugs are always available...

Social Media

Call me a redneck if you like but I have been around social media long enough to see this familiar platform slowly shift into everyday life for most of us. Some posts are positive with lovely sunrises and sunsets, pictures of pets and children being kids. It has been a wonderful place to meet people, a few have become close friends and some I have met in person.

The downside is it has become a cesspool of false news, a place to express negative comments on most things in life which affect us on a daily basis. Government is a favourite topic and sadly a place where people are attacked for their beliefs by total strangers. These people hide in their little anonymous boxes and strike like a venomous snake attacking people from all sides. They are very similar to the school yard bully and in some cases have caused people great pain and suffering.

On the lighter side the first time for me that the lightbulb of reality came on was when a lady whom had friended me wrote a few posts in the middle of the night about how sick her cat was. The pictures showed this bedraggled looking cat. My heart went out to the poor animal and the thought was it had been poisoned. My reality to the thoughtless post came the following morning when she had posted a picture of the hairball the cat had vomited during the night... I mean really.

Don't get me wrong I have posted my share of negetive comments but never ones to hurt another, they are just my views. A drop in the bucket compared to the 2.3 billion other users. So really what does my opinion count in a place where everyone has a voice. I so love the people who post positive comments and pictures as it shows there is hope.

Paridiam Shift

We have all seen society move through change. We have become an instant society and we expect everything to be right now. For me I have the bonus of having lightening fast internet with a download speed of 400mps. Trust me it is fast, I can download a full length movie in some cases in less than 30 seconds. Do I need that sort of speed... No... but I have it as part of my total package by my provider with the full range of services into a bundle for around the 100 dollar range a month. So I have far more speed than I need but it is fast.

I come from a background where if you wanted a cup of coffee or tea you had to collect the water, collect the wood and wait till it boiled. Today I find myself tapping at the countertop as I wait for the microwave to reheat things.

My point I suppose is that I can reach out to anywhere in the world and say hello by text, phone or instant messaging or email. In the case of Facebook it is there immediately. Popularity is based on likes maybe not so much on agreement of what you are attempting to say.

Sadly also coming along with all of this is we are so quick to get caught up with the negative. Chances are if you remain positive it can become a place where you can vent the negative. Soon you begin to look at the world wit a different view and it is not healthy to your personal well being.

Stepping Back is Positive

For those who follow me I recently posted I was taking a step back and I could be reached through personal messaging. This past few weeks I have noticed the change in myself, mainly the fact is there is freedom in looking at things in a different light again.

I had to laugh the other day I ran across an ad that came across my feed. It was an advertisement addressing the severe withdrawals of leaving Facebook behind. This company if you can call it a company offered a 10 week course on how to withdraw from Facebook. The kicker was the course sold for 165 dollars US. Are you kidding me...??? I mean really...

I can assure you I have far better use for my money than that sort of insecurity... Wow..!

Freedom

Nothing clears my head faster than a scene lie this taken many years ago. Man and his dog fishing takes precedence over any negative thokught. This was taken at 1 in the morning in the land of the midnight sun. Now that awakens my spirit in search of peace and quiet.

In closing I think it important we sort through what brings us joy and offers hope for the next day. Is it a good plan to stand in a canoe with 100 feet of water below you without a life jacket... of course not but I was at home in this sort of environment.

I think ever so important we all step back occasionally and think of what God wants us to enjoy. For some Facebook is so very important, for me I can live without it as it so quickly can rob us of our joy.

Hugs are free here and if you like share your thoughts on how social media impacts your life... maybe it is time we all look at that which can change the person we want to be....

Hi, Rolly from my side of the world. This Sunday is as it should be a quiet day and Sid peacefully sleeping away. He sends his sincerest meows to Angel. I use social media sites so I can keep in touch with all my online friends and inform everyone what I have been up to. As far as FB goes that is the place where I can look into from time to time to see what both my off and online friends are up to. Have you seen my FB page with my first book of poems? I am hoping there will be sales and people will enjoy what comes straight from my heart. Wishing you all the best and hugs from my little corner of the world.

Hi Rasma...

Thanks for the heads up on the latest book, I just purchased a copy on the Kindle Edition as I find it handy and can take the writings anywhere. I see I have some reading ahead of me and so looking forward to learning more of the heart of the writer. If I recall your dad was a well known poet as well.
Sending many hugs along to both you and Sid. I have a feeling he knows a good thing being around his mom... holding you in my thoughts and prayers as always...

Well said, my friend. I've found that FB can be a good way to keep in touch with those I care about, and a way to share my writing. I've also found I can waste a lot of time on it if I'm not careful. Love the pictures here. They're beautiful and calkming,

Dear Rolly,

I agree with your ponderings on the potential negative effects of social media.

I'm grateful that the reality of my life keeps me from being preoccupied with 'the clicks and tricks' that I'm sure can be / is an addiction for many.

Sending you and Angel big hugs from PA. Love, mar

Hey there, friend!
Ah, this came out just before I was getting ready to head out traveling and didn't see it. I hadn't heard from you in a wee bit, so I thought I'd stop by and say hello and have a little read. :)
Hope you've been well. Facebook land is an interesting one. I admit that working on FB for school leaves me not wanting to be on there at all for my personal stuff. LOL. And the negativity..whewee, I have to steer clear, very very clear. I keep Edmonton's weather in my weather app and it looks like it's really starting to warm up there. I hope Angel is well. I have started my meditation teaching course - yay! - and it's all that I thought it would be. It's a lot of work, but anything like this is worth the work to come out on the other side a better person, equipped to teach and help others in ways I never thought possible. I'll send you another email soon, but I just wanted to drop a line to send you hugs and I hope you're doing well. ((HUG))

Hi Cynthia...
Thanks for the comment and I agree it can be daunting dealing with social media at times. It does not hurt to take a step back and take a rest as I have found.
Looking forward to reading of your travels and just how you and hubby made out in the trailer. Sure is one great looking little rig and I can imagine you had plenty of enquiries.
Spring has finally arrived here, the snow is pretty much gone and once again it is good to be outside. The past few days have been filled with pruning the trees I have on the property... lol... I will have several truck loads to haul to the compost.
This time of the year I start to get itchy to get out and do some sailing and fishing as you know... all I can say is bring it on.

Hugs as always from Alberta

Oddly I do not get notifications of your blog, and I'm not sure why nor am I good enough with technology to fix the problem. Sorry about that. Anyway, spend money to avoid Facebook withdrawals? LOL I'll be laughing about that all day long. I have over 200 birds and three dogs who do quite a good job of dominating my time, and they never argue with me about politics. It's a win-win situation.

Peace out my friend, and love from Olympia

Hi Bill...

Looks to me like I am late in responding to your gracious message. 200 birds would keep anyone busy. You have certainly gotten into the urban farming of life. Good for you guys, sounds like interesting change in lifestyle. What ever you do you will succeed my friend as you have seen the other side of life as I have...

Hugs and Blessings from snow covered Alberta

Rolly, I'm REALLY late to the party! I love what you have to say here. I rarely go into my FB page, unless I see a notification I think I need to address. Now that I no longer write for a living, my social media activity has gone down to nearly nil. And that's just fine with me. The way I see it, if people want to get in touch with me or catch up, they can text or call. I don't even check my email much anymore. I use my lunch hours for that. Once I'm home, I rarely turn my computer on.

You're very fortunate to live in such a peaceful setting. I'd take that over screen burnout any day!

Hope you're doing well, Rolly.

Peace,
Shauna

Hi Shauna

Great to see you here and I hear the releif in your heart over taking less time on social media. This past while has been great to kind of heal and get a few things done around the house I have been procrastinating about. Seems like it is just one health thing after another. The old body is starting to get tired I suppose. Such is life I have moved from the fast lane to the compost lane now...lol

Hugs and love from Alberta
