Good morning, and welcome to the Fireside! "What is the Fireside?" some may ask. In a nutshell, it started several years ago on another platform called “The Fireside Chat.” It was a place where I wanted people to come, a place to share thoughts, ideas, passions with those who followed and or I followed. I created it in a warm and safe setting. As it grew the platform became more restrictive and censored what I and others could write. Thus you find me here. Please do settle in. As always I want you to feel at home here--my home is now yours. I want you to accept my virtual amenities, a comfortable chair, steaming hot drink, a snack if one is available. Most of all, I want you to just settle in and enjoy the comforts of a warm fire. There are several quilts and throws should you get a chill. Help yourself by tossing another log on the fire for your comfort. Have no fear about crumbs on the floor and let me introduce you to Quigley, my personal four legged portable vacuum. Trust me drop a crumb and you are on her friends list for as long as you like. If you're confused by a boy's name for a girl dog, the best I can say is it was a trade off. I wanted a boy, but a girl it was because she was the first to adopt me. Nevertheless she is a hugger, so be warned. A Little About Myself Allow me into your world for a few minutes and let me tell you a little about myself. I am a Canadian writer. I live in south central Alberta just on the edge of the foothills to the Rocky Mountains. It is a playground which has been created to be enjoyed. As you follow you will better understand as I am involved in all aspects of what God and nature provide. What do I write about some may ask, I think the best answer is whatever is on my heart that particular day. I will tell you right of the start I am a Christian, actually a Pastor since 2007 but now retired but still active in the community. I have lived all over northern Canada and worked in many places in the US. As you will learn I am passionate about nature and all it has to offer. My last real northern home was the Yukon where a man or women could be whatever they want to be. It was a fascinating place really as it had its own kind of flavour as it chose to simply be what the people made it. Yes we had a federal government but we treated them as being the outsiders and to this day it is still called a Territory. My Passions A young lady who started to follow me awhile back. After a few posts, she asked the question, “Just how old are you?”
The answer I sent back was, "Not as old as the dirt, but little younger than the grass.” Julie if you read this you are welcome back… Well, that is a loaded statement. I may write about near anything, and yes I am older and like to consider myself having retained some wisdom. What are my passions? Allow me to pass along a few. Fishing, Hiking, Photography, Wood Carving, Cooking. Painting, Leatherwork, Taxidermy and Sailing just to name a few. I have a very diverse background, Mining, Logging, Oil and Gas, Physical Plant Manager for a few large complexes, Director of Operations, Golf Course Design and Construction, Turf Management, Horticulture, Arboriculture, Plant Pathology, Integrated Pest Management and Aquaculture. Of course, as I mentioned, my faith but not in a preachy way. Those are just the highlighted ones, not to mention the horrible jobs, ones just to make a living. I come from a world that taught you did whatever it took to survive So what will you read about? I smile and say whatever happens to be on this finite mind that day. My hope is you walk away with a little tidbit that can change your world and how you interact. Please feel free to subscribe. Better yet leave a comment, as they are any writers fuel to the fire. I promise to address each as we go along. Above all else, if I had a wish it would be that you leave with a smile knowing that you are loved. Hugs are free, so grab one and pass another along your journey…

Loved reading all about you and your many experiences. Your woodwork is absolutely lovely too, and your photos are really beautiful.

Thank you so much for the comment and yes the north has a way of bringing like minded people together. In my attempts to bring the north to others I can never do her justice

I love Kentuckian talk... keep it coming. Glad to know I am running in somewhat the right direction.
